Mono in Instrument mode.

IBM Plex Mono is the sole typeface in Instrument mode.
No DM Sans or Inter in pure Instrument-mode interfaces. Mono establishes the data-terminal aesthetic.
Size: 10–14px. No display sizes.
Instrument mode has no large headlines. The numbers ARE the headline. Maximum: 14px for primary data values.
Color: Phosphor green primary.
Primary readouts in #52E619. Labels in rgba(196,217,200,0.5). Warnings in amber. Alerts in red.
All caps for labels, mixed for values.
"ROOM 2 · CANOPY" is all-caps. "78.4°F" is mixed. This distinction is the semantic hierarchy.

Signal Typography

DM Sans ExtraBold (800). No other weight.

Signal mode uses only ExtraBold DM Sans for headlines. Maximum visual weight. Tight letter-spacing (-0.03 to -0.04em). Large scale always. When you're at a trade show, you need to be readable from 30 feet.

§ 005.04 · Typographic Rules

Non-negotiable rules.

Left-aligned, rag right. Always.

Never centered for multi-line text blocks. Never fully justified. Left margin is the anchor of every readable layout.

45-70 chars per line max.

Enforce with max-width: 68ch on paragraphs. Long lines cause reading fatigue. Short lines leave dead space.

Skip a weight when pairing.

Regular (400) pairs with DemiBold (600) or Bold (700). Never Regular + Medium. The contrast must be visible.

IBM Plex Mono on all labels.

Buttons, form labels, badges, catalog refs, data callouts. The monospace type is the Archival Index signature.

Spell "grey". Use "&" in headlines.

Never "gray". Headlines use "&" not "and". These are locked conventions — not style preferences.

No decorative effects on type.

No strokes, outlines, drop shadows. The typefaces carry their own weight. Don't dilute them.
